For most driving school profiles the best primary category is Driving school — use it when: lessons for new drivers. Automotive categories are split finely (repair, body work, glass, tyres, detailing). Pick the one that matches most of your jobs and keep the rest as services.

Primary category
- Driving school — Lessons for new drivers
Secondary (additional) categories
Add one only if the condition is genuinely true at this location. Fewer, accurate categories beat a full list of nine.
- Motorcycle driving school — only if: motorcycle training
- Truck driving school verify — only if: truck / CDL / HGV training
1 category is marked verify: it may not appear in every account or country. If you can't find it in Google's dropdown, skip it rather than picking something close but wrong.
Categories to avoid
These are often added to driving school profiles but usually describe a different or broader business:
- Car rental agency
- DMV / licensing office
Address or service area?
Usually set up as a service-area business: hide the street address and list the cities, ZIP codes or postcodes you genuinely serve (up to 20). Don't create a separate listing for each town. Service-area vs storefront rules.
Starter services to add
Categories say what you are; services say what you do. Good first entries:
- Beginner driving lessons
- Test preparation
- Intensive course
Check before you change anything
Search “driving school” on Google Maps in your own area, open the top few profiles and note their primary category (shown under the business name). Use what's common as a sanity check, not a template — your categories must describe your business. Ready to switch? How to change your category safely.
