Your business isn't showing on Google Maps: find out why

'Not showing' usually means one of two very different things: the profile isn't visible at all (unverified, suspended, duplicate) or it exists but doesn't rank for the search you tried. The fix depends on which one it is.

Step by step

  1. Search your exact business name + city on Google Maps in a private/incognito window. If it appears, the profile is live and your problem is ranking (go to step 5).
  2. If it doesn't appear, sign in to the Google Account that manages it and search 'my business'. Google says only verified businesses show their info on Maps and Search. Look for 'Get verified' (not verified), a suspension notice, or 'duplicate'.
  3. Suspended? See profile suspended. Not verified? See verification failed. Duplicate? See duplicate profiles.
  4. Recently created or edited? Google says edits can take up to three days to appear and rankings for new businesses can take up to a month.
  5. Live but not ranking: Google says local results are mainly based on relevance, distance and prominence. Check that your primary category matches the search, your profile is complete (hours, services, description, photos), and you're getting and replying to genuine reviews. You won't show for searches far from your location or service area.

Common questions

How long until a new profile shows on Maps?

After verification, Google says ranking for new businesses can take up to a month to appear, and edits up to three days.

Why do I see my profile but customers don't?

Results depend on where the searcher is and what they typed. Test with the exact search a customer would use, from their area, signed out.
