Google's guidelines say your name should match your real-world name, as used on your storefront, website and stationery, and that including unnecessary information in the name isn't permitted and could result in suspension.
Step by step
- Write down your real-world name exactly as on your signage, website and invoices.
- Remove anything Google lists as not allowed: marketing taglines; store codes; trademark/registered signs; fully capitalised words (unless that's really how the name is written, e.g. an acronym); hours or 'open 24 hours'; phone numbers or website URLs; service or product keywords not part of the real name; location info (city, neighbourhood, exit); 'inside X' containment info; the same name repeated in two scripts.
- Special characters or legal terms (e.g. LLC, Ltd, Inc, &, /): Google says you need real-world proof such as signage, business cards or invoices that consistently show them as part of the name.
- Put the details where they belong: city in the address/service area, services in categories and the Services list, hours in hours.
- Edit the name via Edit profile. Google's edit help page notes a name change after verification may require verifying again.
What not to do
- Don't add 'best', 'near me', '24/7' or a city to rank. If your registered name really contains a word like that, keep your proof ready.
- Don't rename the profile differently from your signage 'just on Google'.
- Don't report competitors' names unless they genuinely break the rules: Google's suggest-an-edit is for real errors.

Common questions
My legal name includes a city. Is that allowed?
If it's genuinely your business name, consistently used on signage and documents, Google's rule is to reflect the real-world name. Keep proof handy in case of review.
Can a name change trigger re-verification?
Yes, Google's help page says you might need to verify again after changing your business name.

We are not Google and can't see inside your account, so we can't promise any outcome: Google alone decides suspensions, appeals, verification and rankings.
