Writing your Google Business Profile description (750-character limit)

Your description shows in the 'From the business' section. Google's help says to cover what you offer, what makes you special, how long you've been in business and anything else helpful, and to stay within 750 characters.

Step by step

  1. Sentence 1: what you are and where. Plain words, matching your primary category, e.g. "Family-run plumber serving the north side of the city since 2012."
  2. Sentences 2–3: what you actually do. Your main services, in the words customers use. Only things you really offer.
  3. Sentence 4: why you. Something specific and true: licences, years trading, languages spoken, same-day call-outs, accessibility.
  4. Last sentence: how to get in touch or book. No URLs.
  5. Check against Google's rules: no links of any kind, no HTML, no promotions, prices or sales ("50% off"), no gibberish or gimmicky characters, nothing unrelated to the business. Count characters: max 750.
  6. Paste it in via Edit profile → Business description → Save. Google may review the edit before it shows.

Common questions

Does the description help ranking?

Google doesn't say the description is a ranking factor. Its ranking tips focus on complete and accurate info, relevance, distance and prominence. Write it for customers.

Why was my description rejected?

Usually it included a link, a promotion or price, or content Google considers irrelevant or low-quality. Remove those and resubmit.

We are not Google and can't see inside your account, so we can't promise any outcome: Google alone decides suspensions, appeals, verification and rankings.
